Project Overview

University of California, Riverside (UC Riverside) had a goal to develop a sustainable, future-focused classroom in its XCITE Center for Teaching and Learning, featuring a highly visual, interactive wall. Their vision prioritized hands-on learning, peer collaboration, and deeper exploration of complex subjects. By implementing ThinkHub visual collaboration software, they enhanced student engagement while equipping professors with innovative tools to break learning barriers.

The Solution

University of California, Riverside sought to enable hands-on learning for students, foster peer networks, and facilitate exploration of complex subjects. To achieve this, they utilized ThinkHub visual collaboration software, which not only enhances the overall student learning experience, but also caters to the needs of their professors as they seek new ways to engage students and help them overcome barriers to learning.

  • ThinkHub visual collaboration software powers a 6x2 Clarity® Matrix® G3 LCD Video Wall System
  • ThinkHub Dock display in back of the classroom to display content

ThinkHub transforms this learning space with seamless integration across AR, VR, and other applications, enabling immersive experiences and diverse instructional styles. It fosters real-time and asynchronous collaboration, enhancing engagement and peer interaction. Faculty leverage interactive sessions, including tutorials and simulations, for high-impact instruction. Digital whiteboarding, notes, and unlimited content sharing create a dynamic, hands-on learning environment.

What we are seeing with bringing in the ThinkHub high visualization interactive wall is a model of what we think classrooms are going to be lookin like in the year 2030. We really wanted to build here, in XCITE, the Classroom of the Future.

Something that truly inspired me was the fact that we can have multiple people using ThinkHub at the same time — all annotating at the same time. They can work together as a group, be able to learn from each other, collaborate, contribute to drawings — this is an endless platform.

My main focus is on Chemistry education — finding new ways to engage students and help them overcome those barriers to learning. ThinkHub allows us to seamlessly integrate applications and further the students' understanding and interest in the subject matter — and the students really enjoy it. You can tell from the look on their faces, you know how much interaction you get from them — it's a night and day difference. By utilizing technology such as this, you can integrate different instructional styles and meet those students wherever they are with whatever methods work best for them.

Before, we were in this really tiny conference room. There would be this one whiteboard and our professor would be the only one drawing on it. But here, students can go up and write things down and they can talk to other students — and there's a bigger, more collaborative space, so it's way different than what it would be like in a huge lecture hall.
