At Pace University, the traditional lecture style of teaching is becoming a thing of the past. With technology rapidly evolving and hybrid learning models becoming the norm post-pandemic, Pace sought a comprehensive solution to actively engage learners regardless of their location. They desired software flexible and robust enough to facilitate experiential lessons where students could learn by doing, rather than passively listening to lectures.
To meet this goal, Pace implemented ThinkHub Education visual collaboration technology for active learning in multidisciplinary classrooms on their New York City and Pleasantville campuses. These HyFlex, active learning classrooms feature a large Instructor Station with an Avocor interactive display, complemented by multiple Student Stations.
"Our traditional lecture model of education is going away – it needs to go away. You don't want to look in the back of someone’s head for two hours as they lecture. We would much rather students participate in the lessons that are being taught." - George Chacko, Director, Educational Media, Pace University
In-room and remote students are encouraged to connect to their assigned Student Stations with the T1V app and utilize real-time content sharing capabilities from their stations to:
- Brainstorm ideas
- Annotate documents
- Visualize data
- Present group projects
- Collaborate with peers both in-person and remote
Instructors can easily monitor all Student Station Canvases from their Instructor Station and share their own Canvas or individual Student Station Canvases out to the room — allowing for seamless collaboration.
Additionally, ThinkHub has the ability to integrate with various software applications — from Microsoft 0365 applications to Google Workspace to anatomy scans, and more — enabling active learning across diverse curriculums. This flexible solution keeps both in-person and remote students highly engaged, making it ideal for HyFlex classrooms.
"[With ThinkHub] students get to engage. They're looking at the content, they're touching the content, they're learning – it's called experiential learning. If you're not doing it, you're missing out – your students are missing out." - George Chacko, Director, Educational Media, Pace University
For any higher education institutions aiming to facilitate hands-on, experiential learning, ThinkHub provides the robust collaborative capabilities today's HyFlex and active learning classrooms require.
