T1V’s first official event for T1V’s Community User Group took us on a Virtual Tour of Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine - a brand new medical education building in Athens, Ohio.
The Heritage College, powered by ThinkHub Connect MultiSite, will unite three campuses into one, multicampus active learning network.
Jodie Penrod, Senior Director, Technology at Heritage College gave us this first look inside just how the active learning facility will drive a multisite experience for its instructors and students alike.
ThinkHub Connect MultiSite collaboration software, showcased across all three Heritage College campuses - in eight Active Learning Classrooms, or ALCs, connect students and faculty no matter where they are.
Jodie explained,
“We needed a system that is flexible for our faculty and optimized for student experience. That’s even more important to us right now because of the pandemic and being able to reach a student wherever that student might be.”
With completely mobile ALCs in-room, including tables on wheels and mobile display carts - everything in each learning environment room layout can be reconfigured depending on the need of each class size.
The added hybrid classroom component of connecting the two additional campuses AND remote instructors and students further enhances teaching and learning with ThinkHub Connect MultiSite.
Jodie went on to discuss the way the curriculum for the Heritage College works. During one learning activity, ThinkHub Connect MultiSite joins faculty and students from all three campuses into that one learning activity, virtually.
She described, “In the past, we’ve used a lot of video conferencing, or hardware-based room designs - like a lot of Crestron equipment hardware, which has its limitations. We really wanted to have more flexibility as we connected our three campuses. Jodie continued,
“The software-based approach using T1V has been a game changer for us.”
With the quality of the student experience as a top priority, ThinkHub Connect MultiSite software leverages engagement and collaboration for a virtually equal classroom learning environment.
