While ThinkHub is a collaboration solution for hybrid teams and spaces - our team has a lot of fun finding ways to use ThinkHub in other, less obvious ways. Like leaning into ThinkHub to host our internal team events, and build company culture with games and contests.
To that end, our team put together an event to celebrate the start of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Throughout the pandemic the games were put on hold, but we could finally come together to celebrate progress in the face of COVID-19, and of course - to root for Team USA!
If your team is anything like ours, they love a healthy competition. As part of our Olympic kick-off party, we created a series of games dubbed The T1V Hybrid Olympics. This was a set of four interactive games that in-room and remote employees played on the ThinkHub Canvas together.
We prepped the Canvas with the hybrid games before the event - and just for fun, we also sent images - like .jpg files of scenic landscape photos from Japan and iconic Olympic athletes to the Canvas, along with a cool time lapse YouTube video of Tokyo.
It’s important to have a fully interactive audio and visual experience when creating event content - and we didn’t want that team culture excitement factor to be lessened for anyone participating remotely. So, our T1V Hybrid Olympic prep team added a YouTube video with the traditional Olympic theme song to the ThinkHub Canvas and looped it - so it was played quietly in the background for both in-room and remote participants to hear while playing the games.
We created one Canvas for the four games and used ThinkHub Groups to make a dedicated section for each game to house that game’s content - including prompts and any Notes or images needed for the game questions.
We’ve explained how to set up your Experience Center for a hybrid team event, but we’ve recapped a how-to here:
In-room participants: position yourself around the meeting room or collaboration space. Have a team captain up manning your team’s touchscreen in the room. Another option is to connect to the ThinkHub Canvas on your personal devices via the T1V app for easy access.
Remote participants: Join the Canvas through the T1V app. Open the T1V app and use this as the platform to drive your participation in the event. Use the video conferencing integration within the T1V app to launch a video conferencing meeting so you can interact with team members in the meeting room face-to-face.
Now, for a breakdown of the game setup:
Memory Rings
Draw the Olympic Rings.
2 minutes
- Pick a team leader to draw
- Team with the closest to the correct shape and colors wins!
The two teams used ThinkHub’s annotation tool set to drive this game. You can draw on the ThinkHub Canvas with your finger, a stylus, or by trackpad / remote touchscreen via the T1V app on your personal device.
Tokyo Blitz
List as many Summer Olympic sports as you can.
3 minutes
- Send Notes to this game’s Group on the ThinkHub with T1V app or via the Sketch tool on the Canvas.
- Team with the most correct summer events wins!
Sporty Olympians
Match the athlete to their Olympic event.
5 minutes
- One ThinkHub Group held Notes - some with athlete names and others with different Olympic events typed out.
- Teams would drag and drop the Notes on the ThinkHub Canvas to be associated with one another in order to match names to games.
Golden Countries
Guess the name of these heavily medaled countries by their flags.
5 minutes
- This ThinkHub Group held an array of country flags from around the world - these were sent in advance to a saved ThinkHub Canvas as image files.
- Teams should annotate the name of the country on the flag or send a Note to identify the country.
The T1V team was pumped from the collaboration frenzy going on in these friendly but competitive games. It really got our creative juices flowing and team camaraderie going!
Team Downstairs took home the gold.
Our team loved this event - we can’t wait for the next Olympics so we can do it all over again!
